The Economy
decorative element
Manufacturing, construction, mining and agriculture, all blue-collar industries, founded the region’s economy. They continue to have a strong presence, no doubt contributing heartily to the area’s noted work ethic, as new economies emerge and diversify.

Small businesses dominate today’s regional professional landscape. Business values line up with Inland Northwest values to match our work-hard-play-hard lifestyle.

Technology and other new economy industries are emerging. Opportunities for professional advancement and customizable training have helped that advancement. Commercialization of technologies developed at Washington State University and the University of Idaho has also provided a boost.

Clusters have formed in information and high-technology, aerospace, healthcare and biosciences, financial and shared services, metalworking, and forest products. Marine services companies have also developed a presence.
